Timid India, aggressive China

A Chinese think tank recently in a paper suggested balkanisation of India.

The Indian scars of a war lost in 1962 re-opened when there were media reports that Chinese army men had shot at and even beaten up Indian border guards, the ITBP.

In the 1962 war China annexed part of Indian territory in Leh, Kashmir. The border problem dates back to the British times. The McMahon Line was drawn up by the British when they ruled India and pre-communist China was weak.

The bitter truth is that India is afraid of China. The Indian timidity stems from the fact that India is being weakened by three major factors; Corrupt bureaucracy, communal elements in Indian polity and weak cowardly leaders

India always wants to settle the issue peacefully. China in contrast has been aggressive.

China recently tried to block a ADB loan for development projects in Arunachal Pradesh, which it claims belongs to it. Moreover China is propping up Pakistan as a counter against India. A Chinese think tank recently in a paper suggested balkanisation of India.
India has never had any aggressive designs towards any country. Pakistan and China take that as a sign of weakness. Actually, India is like a peaceable elephant. But if aroused, it can turn ferocious. But it is being made weak by factors mentioned above.

It is time China stops trying to push India around. The present Indian generation wants peace, but it will not take things lying down. The best way would be talks to settle the border issue.
