Raibaghini - Bhurishrestha Kingdom in Bengal

LESS KNOWN and TALKED (Western Data Genesis Gemini) :

Rani Bhavashankari Roy, the ruler of the Bhurishrestha kingdom (popularly known as Raibaghini, the "Royal Tigress") was the 16th-century Hindu queen of the Bhurishrestha Kingdom in Bengal. Ruling during the era of Mughal Emperor Akbar, she is celebrated for her military brilliance and for successfully defending her sovereignty against external threats. She was a powerful leader, often compared to Rani Laxmibai, who safeguarded her kingdom's independence.

Key Facts and Achievements -
·        Kingdom & Territory: She ruled Bhurishrestha (or Bhurshut), which spanned parts of modern-day Howrah, Hooghly, Bardhaman, and Midnapore.
·        Military Prowess: Trained in warfare from childhood by her father, Dinanath Chaudhuri, she became an expert in archery, swordsmanship, and horse riding.
·        Defeating the Pathans: Following the death of her husband, Maharaja Rudranarayan, she personally led her armies to defeat the Islamic Sultanate of Gaur (Pathans) twice. She notably won the Battle of Bashuri, even after her own minister betrayed her.
·        The Title "Raibaghini": Her bravery was so legendary that Emperor Akbar bestowed upon her the title Raibaghini, meaning "The Tigress of the Roy family," and chose not to interfere with her kingdom's sovereignty.
·        Spiritual Devotion: An ardent devotee of Goddess Chandi, she is said to have received a blessed sword from the deity, with the prophecy that no man could defeat her in battle. She commissioned several temples dedicated to Chandi.

Legacy -
While her historical contributions were overlooked for many years, she is often compared to Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi for her fierce resistance and leadership

Points To Ponder

WHY WAS THE FIGHTING ON THE RUSSIAN FRONT SO FIERCE DURING WW2?

It is difficult to distinguish between the quality of both the German and Russian soldiers. Both were motivated by their love for their motherland. But there were others factors that drove the two sides to such desperate fighting.

One, both sides knew that this was a no-holds bar war. Not fighting was thus not an option.

Second, both Hitler and Stalin had squads that killed any deserter. Turning away from fighting was just not possible.

Thus was seen some of the most bitter, brutal and desperate fighting on the WW2 eastern (Russian) Front.
"Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it."
-- George Santayana

Quotes....

"Naturally the common people don't want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in America, nor in Germany. That is understood. But after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country."
--Hermann Goering

Quotes....

"To conquer the enemy without resorting to war is the most desirable. The highest form of generalship is to conquer the enemy by strategy."

--Emperor Hirohito
